Monotype / Gumprint Workshops

Each Workshop is a two day collaboration between Tom Blaess and a maximum 5 participants, with a mix from beginners and experienced artists. Different than a class, each workshop is an opportunity to make prints in a professional printmaking studio with an experienced Master Printer in an inspirational surronding, down by the river in Bern.

When: Saturday and Sundays, except during exhibition times, then on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Time: 10:30 -1:00 p.m., 2:00 -5:00 p.m.

Cost: Fr. 340.- Gift Certificates are possible! Included in the price is all printing materials, except for the Zerkall printing paper, 250 gm2.

What you should bring:

A portfolio for prints 50 x 60 cm

To make Gumprints  (paper lithography):

Bring black and white photocopies or laserprints on satin finish 100gm2 color laser paper (not glossy). Images with clear shapes, good blacks and high contrast print best, avoid grey images with low contrast. If you are making photocopies, use the "text" setting to achieve maximum contrast. Images flip in reverse when printed, so make sure to make copies backwards. Bring lots of copies in small and large sizes. Images print 25% darker than the copies, so make sure the shadow details are open. Attention: Inkjet doesn't work at all!

Bring a lunch to eat, with nice weather you can sit by the river. Bring clothes to make art in, and a sweater in winter and comfortable shoes. While my studio is heated, it ain't Miami Beach. I have some brushes, but if you would like to use your own brushes, feel free to bring them.

Parking: I have a parking space for the class (Fr.10.- per day), but you must call me first so I may explain to you where to park.

The Uferweg is a private street, closed to traffic on the weekend and from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. during the week. Please do not drive through to the atelier, you will get an expensive ticket and I will get a letter from my landlord, thanks for observing the rules...
