Atelier Tom Blaess

The layout of the atelier can be customized to suit the individual artist, or, in the case of a workshop, several artists. Adjustable tables allow to maximize the workflow, thereby saving time, space, and energy.

The centerpiece of the studio is the large format convertible litho/etching press, capable of printing images in sizes up to 60" x 40" (150 x 100 cm).

The best of materials, starting with printing inks and rollers from America, lithographic stones from Germany, and a selection of fine art papers from France, help ensure that the prints are archival and of a very high standard. Oversize steel flat files store the large monotypes, while at the same time providing an impressive presentation system for the visiting collectors.

Just a few steps outside the studio door is the river Aare, a never-ending flow of energy coming down from the nearby Alps. For artists and city residents alike, the Aare provides a unique refuge, a place to sit down and contemplate the river's flow, or, on Sunday afternoons, a popular walk for the Bernese. And in summer, if you are brave enough to handle the rather brisk water temperature, it is one of the greatest places to swim. The printshop has a hot shower, and there's always a fresh pot of coffee, so in summer the rhythm is work, swim, and work again.
